Subject: Canada, things are about to get really interesting.

Friends,

I think things are about get really interesting.

The actions Sunday exceeded all expectations. We shocked the world by showing that our movements can turn out massive numbers in the streets in New York, but also all across Canada.

Well over a thousand First Nations and Canadians were in the streets of New York City while hundreds marched in communities like Thunder Bay and Saint John’s, and thousands in cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

Now we need bring this energy back to decision-makers -- from Parliament, to the board room, to city hall.

At the People's Climate March, we stood together. We were led by impacted communities from New York City and Indigenous Peoples, including First Nations from across Canada [ http://www.idlenomore.ca/idle_no_more_a ... mate_march ] leading the fight against extreme energy, marching with students working to divest their universities from the moral stain of fossil fuels, pipeline fighters calling for a stop to tar sands expansion at the source, migrant rights groups, workers in the labor movement, and so many other people whose work intersects with the cause of climate justice:

No one expected this day to be this big -- up until the morning of the 21st, the guess was 100,000 people would be in New York. To see 400,000 people in the streets of New York, and thousands more across Canada, shows that there’s more energy behind this message than anyone expected.

Here in Canada, we still have our work cut out for us. Facing an onslaught of pipelines, the push for tar sands expansion, and a government that refuses to take action on climate change, our task now is to bring the momentum and energy from this weekend back home.

Here are a couple ways we're going to make that happen:

We’re already gearing up to take on the biggest tar sands pipeline every proposed, TransCanada’s Energy East project, and to stop this one we’re going to need all hands on deck. 40,000 Canadians have spoken out for a climate review of Energy East.

We plan to deliver those comments as soon as TransCanada files for their permit - - click here to make sure your message against Energy East is part of that action.

Students all across Canada are leading powerful campaigns to divest from the fossil fuel industry, and gearing up to take that fight to the next level this fall.

If you saw any of the pictures from Sunday’s march, you know this movement is bigger and more diverse than ever. If we can keep that in our hearts as we move forward from here, I believe that we will be truly unstoppable.

Thank you again and again,

Cam

P.S. Check out this great wrap up video from Idle No More highlighting Indigenous Peoples at the march, including some amazing voices and leaders from Canada.
