Yesterday, Toronto's NOW Magazine reported, "Seven years on, the only film festival dedicated specifically to water conservation continues to find new documentaries about its particular thread of environmental awareness. This year’s opening night gala (April 12, 6 pm) will see Maude Barlow, honorary chairperson of the Council of Canadians, presented with this year’s Water Warrior Award."

Back on March 22, World Water Day, the film festival stated, "This year marks the launch of our annual Water Warrior Award which will be presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to protecting and raising awareness about threats and issues faced by water. We are excited to announce that our 2018 recipient is Maude Barlow, Honorary Chairperson of the Council of Canadians and chair of the board of Washington-based Food and Water Watch. Barlow will join us on Opening Night (Thursday, April 12) to accept the award and give a keynote address."

Toronto-based Council of Canadians organizers Mark Calzavara and Rachel Small were at last night's event and tweeted:

- Our Toronto chapter’s Tara Seucharan opens the Water Docs Film Festival where Maude Barlow will soon be given the first annual Water Warrior award!
- Standing ovation as Maude Barlow is awarded the inaugural Water Warriors Award at Water Docs! "Beyond her many accomplishments, we are giving her this award, above all, because she meets with us and gives us hope."
- At the Water Docs film festival where Maude Barlow is giving the keynote and accepting the first annual Water Warrior award. “I have never seen so much amazing cooperation between First Nations and settler activists."

Allies, including Ontario-based Food and Water First, tweeted, "Congratulations to Maude Barlow!"

So say we all! Congratulations Maude!
