Blue Planet Project founder Maude Barlow is now at the 'Toward a Greener Attica – Preserving the Planet and Protecting its People' international ecological symposium in Athens, Greece, where Bartholomew I has just spoken.

Bartholomew I is the Archbishop of Constantinople, is regarded as the primus inter pares (first among equals) in the Eastern Orthodox Church, and is the spiritual leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians worldwide. His commitment to ecology and environmental protection has earned him the title 'The Green Patriarch'.

Barlow tells us that in his address he talked about Paris and Berlin being blue communities, celebrating Thessaloniki becoming a blue community just yesterday, and said that all of Greece should become a blue community.

The Green Patriarchate has tweeted, "Watch the opening remarks here!":

This is a significant forum for this message to be delivered by Bartholomew I. The Ecumenical Patriarchate's Facebook page notes, "During the Interfaith Symposium, about 200 representatives of churches and religions, distinguished scientists, politicians and entrepreneurs, activists and journalists, from around the world, will discuss the region's pressing environmental problems and study the interconnection between ecology and The economy, particularly in the context of pressing social and environmental challenges in Greece and internationally."

Barlow is scheduled to speak at the conference on June 7 on 'Philosophy and Practice' in a session titled 'Global Trends: Economy, Ethics and Spirituality'.
