Ottawa — As the trade ministers of the remaining Trans-Pacific Partnership countries meet in Hanoi, Vietnam May 20th and 21st, outside of the APEC meeting, the Council of Canadians will be available for comment throughout the weekend on this deal.

“Prime Minister Trudeau promised that his government would be better listeners: unlike the Harper government, they would consult Canadians about trade. But in the Trudeau government’s own consultations, Canadians massively opposed the TPP,” says Maude Barlow, National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians. “Also, while Canada and other countries have made major concessions to the U.S. and to corporate lobbies in order to get the TPP, even without the U.S., other countries are trying to revive the dubious legacy of the TPP. It’s time they got the message: People are opposed to these agreements.” -30-
