May 4, 2018 - Media Release

The Council of Canadians attempted to purchase ads critical of NAFTA in Reagan National Airport on the eve of talks on the deal in Washington on May 7. However, the ad was refused by the airport’s ad managing firm Clear Channel after the airport “checked out” the Council’s website, according to an email from the agency. The ads can be viewed here: [ https://www.flickr.com/photos/councilof ... 5772846134 ]

“We had worked with the airport media company to come up with messaging that was non-partisan and more educational in tone, and it was accepted,” says Sujata Dey, Trade Campaigner with the Council of Canadians. “But after checking our website, they told us that they cannot place our ad.

We see this as censorship and clearly unfair.” -30-
