Saskatchewan MLA Larry Doke to Serve as Pacific Northwest Economic Region President, 2019 Summit to be Held in Saskatoon

The Government of Saskatchewan announced today that the annual Pacific Northwest Economic Regions (PNWER) summit will be held in Saskatoon from July 21 – 25, 2019. The summit will explore shared challenges, discuss best practices and promote regional relationships among those in the Pacific Northwest.

Cut Knife-Turtleford MLA Larry Doke today assumed the role of PNWER president at this year’s summit in Spokane, Washington.
“I am thrilled to take on this new role as PNWER president,” Doke said. “Through PNWER, we can strengthen relationships, build upon successes and create connections that will benefit us all. I am honoured to have the opportunity as president to lead important discussions that will guide our work in promoting our economic interests and achieving our goals as a region. I also look forward to hosting the PNWER summit in Saskatoon next year and showcasing Saskatchewan’s economic strength and growth to my PNWER colleagues.”

PNWER is a statutory public/private non-profit organization which aims to increase the well-being and quality of life for citizens of the Pacific Northwest, and to maintain and enhance the natural environment of the region. PNWER provides a platform for regional and bi-national cooperation and collaboration among public, private, academic and non-profit stakeholders.

“MLA Doke's leadership and commitment to building cross border relationships and co-operation among our states, provinces and territories is essential at this important time in Canada-US relations,” PNWER CEO Matt Morrison said.

PNWER state membership includes Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Washington. British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon and Northwest Territories represent Canadian PNWER membership.

Saskatchewan last hosted the PNWER summit in Saskatoon in 2012. -30-

The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to welcome delegates to the 29th Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Annual Summit in Saskatoon this week.

PNWER is a non-partisan, private/public non-profit organization created to advance the common interests of its 10 member jurisdictions, which include Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Alaska from the United States and Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories from Canada. The annual summit is PNWER’s biggest networking event,
bringing together private and public sector leaders from the region to address issues impacting the regional cross-border economy.
