Christmas and Peace?

Christmas and Peace?

War mongers, or people who make us fearful that there are terrorists everywhere, are planning military forces of robot soldiers [where no one needs to be killed] and drone fighter and bomber planes, [where human pilots will not be required to make the supreme sacrifice].

Is this going to be the new path to "Peace on Earth?

It is proper that we acknowledge the supreme sacrifice made by Canadians in Afghanistan. However, we hear very little about those who have been fearfully wounded or maimed for life. It is quite possible that some who are suffering through a lengthy partial recovery are at times wondering why they were not killed in action, so they too would be remembered as heroes. Or those who wonder why they escaped injury or death, while their comrades in arms were not so fortunate.

Is this all about the glory of war?

Why do I allow realism to over take hope for the future? Especially during during this blessed season of Christmas and Peace? Is it perhaps the winter doldrums? Or is it because we know that our world is now spending over $1 trillion annually for the tools of war, while millions of our brothers and sisters and their children in many places on Earth are suffering severe hunger, oppression and preventable diseases? At the same time, there are many caring human beings who would like to believe that that the human race is coming around to sincerely follow the teaching of the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

We in the industrialized world believe that we are the protectors of democracy and freedom. Then why do we feel the arrows of anxiety pierce the very core of our hearts. Is it because we know that some of the Christian nations on our planet are the largest producers of the weapons of destruction and death, including nuclear bombs?

God has endowed us with free will. Are we, as individuals, going to be the harbingers of Peace, or will we maintain the myth of the glory of war?

Yours sincerely
Leo Kurtenbach.
