Lake loses out

According to media reports, as of November Manitoba has given Winnipeg 27 years to clean up its act regarding sewage currently being dumped into the Red River en route to Lake Winnipeg.

Many people have asked, "Why the wait?"

As I see the events that have taken place, and are currently taking place, in the province, this is my best answer: "There will be a provincial election in about two years and the Pallister government doesn’t want to lose any of its big-city support. It’s basically a political move and don’t-rock-the boat syndrome. Free rein to further expand the already gluttonous hog industry, appeasing the Manitoba Pork Council and the city residents by all means, votes garnered in their favour."

Sadly, the big loser in all of this political manoeuvring is Lake Winnipeg.
