Cameco signs agreement committing funding and long-term contracts to the Lac La Ronge Indian Band

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson has signed an agreement with the president of Cameco, committing the uranium company to work closely with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band over the lifespan of its four northern Saskatchewan operations.

The band’s land and resource coordinator, Darwin Roy, said the agreement will make things more predictable during a difficult time in the uranium sector.

“The commitment is going to be there for the life of the mines, when previously there was no specific commitment,” he said. “It does provide a little bit more certainty.”
