Re: “Nuclear waste recycling: safe sensible solution,” (The Hill Times, April 5). Rory O’Sullivan, CEO of Moltex Energy, says that criticisms of his company’s push to “recycle” nuclear waste are based on misunderstandings of the science and regulatory process. But Mr. O’Sullivan’s letter itself recycles arguments discredited many years ago.

As scientists who have studied the nuclear fuel cycle for decades, we can attest that the evidence is clear [ https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9789811399008 ]: in addition to being a dirty and dangerous process, “recycling” spent nuclear fuel greatly increases both the dangers to human health and the environment posed by nuclear wastes, and the risk of terrorists acquiring nuclear-weapon-usable materials. . . . .
