Last week Royal Dutch Shell announced a massive sell off of most of its stake in the Alberta oil sands.

But Shell isn't the only foreign company to pull up its stakes lately. Earlier this year, Norway's Statoil closed a deal to sell-off its Canadian assets.

Some experts say this is a move to consolidate companies and make them more profitable in the long run, while others blame carbon taxing and low crude prices.

Is this one more nail in the coffin for the Alberta oil patch?

Should we be worried?
