The monthly meeting of the Qu'Appelle Valley Environmental Association is this evening

Wednesday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Qu'Appelle Valley Centre for the Arts (Old School), 406 4th St. W, Fort Qu'Appelle. Everyone is welcome.

We will discuss the Carney government's disappointing embrace of fossil fuels and nuclear power, and its abandonment of Canada's climate targets.

And you will hear the latest on the plans for our Saturday, September 12 public forum Finding Common Ground "Protecting Prairie Waters, Habitats and Health." Dr. Peter Leavitt will be the keynote speaker at the forum. He will talk about his latest research on the health of prairie waters.

The September event will also include a panel of speakers on concentration of ownership of agricultural land, farmers' concerns regarding lack of drainage regulations, Indigenous land rights, data centres, the need to address the growing dependence on fossil fuels for our electrical grid, youth climate action and more.

Note: Attached is an article on the direction that Carney is taking our country.

It is certainly “good news” that the BC tanker ban has remained. But Carney is totally giving into the oil industry. Its profits may hit 60 billion this year and yet the proposed expansion of the TMX pipeline will be mostly publicly funded. Just like the last one. And while devastating flooding and other extreme weather continues across the country, Carney is setting in motion even higher emissions from the tar sands. These are the largest single source of Canada’s emissions. Remember, it is a myth that CCS will make expanded bitumen production “cleaner”: 80% of the carbon will come when the oil is burned.

Meanwhile renewable energy is advancing by leaps and bounds most everywhere – except here. It is tragically ironic that, supposedly to protect our sovereignty from Trump’s USA, we are embracing the exact pro-fossil fuel, climate-denying nightmare promoted by the present US administration. We can and must do better.
