SATURDAY JUNE 28, 4-8 pm: GRILLING FOR A GRIDDLE FUNDRAISER, 3408 MACLACHLAN CRESC
Darin and Christian Milo are hosting a fundraiser for Good Trouble Network YQR so they can purchase a commercial griddle for food prep. They have been working with Heritage Homies and The Hawk Principle preparing breakfast for the children at Thompson School, and also hosting the Sunday Fun Day, providing free meals every Sunday at Pepsi Park. Good Trouble YQR recently got approved to utilize the space at the old fire hall on 11th Avenue to help with these initiatives, but all that food prep is difficult without the proper equipment. This fundraiser will help them immensely for the food security initiatives that they are undertaking in this city.
The event itself is a backyard BBQ with all the food and beverages supplied, and there will also be an acoustic band playing.

The food will be appetizers, smash burger sliders made with local sourced beef, hot dogs, and vegan options. Beverages will be pop & juice, and I will be providing my homemade beer and cider.

There is no cost, but we encourage people to give a donation to the griddle fund. We are also requesting people to drop off sanitary products that can be handed out underprivileged people by these community organizations.
This fundraiser is family friendly and inclusive.

HELP NEEDED

TUESDAY JULY 1, TANTANGA (BUFFALO) DAY, 8 am – 7 pm, 3355 8th Ave
Volunteers are needed to help artists paint murals on the street, hand out food, help with kids face painting, help with garbage and clean up (especially at the end of the day around 5:30/6:00 pm) and other roles.

SPECIAL ACTION

SAVE REGINA TREES
On June 23, city staff began stripping all the spruce trees in Central Park of their branches up to 8’ above ground level. This is the new plan for every spruce tree in the city.

This plan will kill these trees throughout the city.
The branches shade the shallow roots from extremes of heat and cold and trap snow for free moisture … the city will have to water more during all the dry times ahead.
Even with the cost of more watering, the trees will be less drought resistant at a time when we expect more drought. As they dry out the trees will be more susceptible to insect infestation. Treating diseased trees will increase city costs.
Many trees will die within a few years … the city will have to pay to have them removed and replaced, again increasing costs.
