Join us for a free public screening of Roadmap to Apartheid, the first in a series of films aimed at providing audiences with an introduction to the history and context of current events in Gaza.
In this award-winning documentary, two first-time directors, a white South African and a Jewish Israeli, use their own experiences to examine the apartheid analogy commonly used to describe Israel/Palestine. Narrated by Alice Walker (author of The Color Purple), Roadmap to Apartheid documents the rise and fall of apartheid in South Africa and examines why Palestinians describe their living situation as an apartheid system, and why organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch agree with them.

We are very appreciative Tristen Durocher has agreed to speak and perform at this event: Tristen knows that even small positive changes can lead to great things – and he has been instrumental in creating those changes. Inspired by the defeat of a suicide prevention bill in the Saskatchewan Legislature, Tristen created the “Walking with Our Angels” campaign to raise awareness of the disproportionately high rate of suicide among Northern and Indigenous peoples, walking 635 km from his home in Air Ronge, SK, to the Legislative grounds in Regina, SK. He set up a teepee and started a 44-day ceremonial fast to convince the provincial government to adopt the bill it had recently voted down. The bill ultimately passed in April 2021.
Letter writing has always been at the heart of Amnesty International’s work and over 60 years of activism shows us that words have power.
