TUESDAY JUNE 4, 7 pm: CHANGES TO WARD BOUNDARIES FOR 2024 MUNICIPAL ELECTION, HAMPTON HUB, 1221 15TH AVE
The ward boundaries have all been changed for the 2024 municipal election. The changes mean there will be no councillors representing Regina’s core neighbourhoods: Cathedral, North Central, downtown, and Heritage. Under the changes these areas have all been attached to suburban areas. Cathedral, for example, will become part of a ward that stretches south, through Lakeview, past the Golden Mile, and all the way to Sunset Avenue.
Come and learn what we can do to stop this gerrymandering—“the political manipulation of electoral district boundaries with the intent to create undue advantage for a party, group, or socioeconomic class within the constituency.”

Join us for a screening of Annemarie Jacir’s award-winning film, SALT OF THIS SEA.
Soraya, born in Brooklyn in a working class community of Palestinian refugees, discovers that her grandfather’s savings were frozen in a bank account in Jaffa when he was exiled in 1948. Stubborn, passionate and determined to reclaim what is hers, she fulfills her life-long dream of “returning” to Palestine. Once there, slowly she is taken apart by the reality around her and is forced to confront her own anger. She meets Emad, a young Palestinian whose ambition, contrary to hers, is to leave forever. Tired of the constraints that dictate their lives, they know in order to be free, they must take things into their own hands, even if it’s illegal. In this quest for life, we follow their trail through the remains of Palestine. Featuring Palestinian poet Suheir Hammad and Palestinian star Saleh Baki in their first lead roles.
This event is hosted by Palestine Solidarity Regina.
