MAKING PEACE VIGIL Newsletter - October 5, 2025

SPECIAL MEETING

This Wednesday, October 8, the Safe Public Spaces Act will again be on the agenda of a meeting of City Council, with Council voting on whether to adopt the Act as a City bylaw. As you know, the claim is that the Act “promotes safety in public urban spaces.” In fact, adopting it will make our city a much less safe place for many of our fellow citizens: unhoused people.

Join us on Oct. 22 to hear the firsthand experiences of Dr. Deirdre Nunan, a Saskatchewan-trained orthopaedic surgeon who has spent much of the past decade working in international humanitarian contexts. She has spent nearly two years working in Gaza, including on three occasions during the past year. She recently returned from working at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza. When in Canada, she works in Moose Jaw.

The event will include a moderated panel discussion (5:30 pm - 7:15 pm) with Dr. Elizabeth Meyer (Colorado; author of Queer Justice at School: A Guide for Youth Activists, Allies, and Their Teachers), Dr. Qui Alexander (OISE), and Madelaine Enns (Indigenous Teachers for Two-Spirit Youth), followed by a reception (7:30 pm - 8:30 pm).
