NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO END HOUSELESSNESS IN CANADA BY GETTING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO REINVEST IN AFFORDABLE PUBLIC HOUSING
End Poverty Regina has launched a campaign to end houselessness in Canada. The document is attached, as well as copied and pasted in below. Please join this campaign.
The goal of the campaign is to get the federal government to reinvest in affordable public housing. To this end, you are asked to do the following:
Despite its claims, it appears that Canada Builds Homes, launched in September 2025 by the Carney government, leaves out the most vulnerable: people who are unhoused:

Call on the federal government to take action to end Canada’s houselessness crisis.by restoring the national affordable housing program, which, for a couple of decades, created about 20,000 affordable rental housing units per year.
Do so by sending a letter or email (letter preferred) to Prime Minister Mark Carney and copied to Housing Minister Gregor Robinson, Federal Housing Advocate Marie José Houle, and the letter-writer’s MP.
Letters to MPs do not require a stamp. Only the letter to Housing Advocate Houle will need one.
Addresses can be found on the attached sheet, as well as suggestions for points you might want to include in your letters/emails.
Share this campaign with individuals and groups in other Canadian cities.
LIST OF POINTS LETTER WRITERS CAN DRAW FROM

My city is experiencing a houselessness crisis. (If you know any of the details such as numbers, provide them.)
Express your feelings about the situation—for example, dismay, disappointment, anger, rage.
Call on the federal government to take action to end Canada’s houselessness crisis by reinstating the national affordable housing program initially instituted in 1973—which, until it was cancelled in 1993, created 1000s or affordable rental housing units every year.
Note that “affordable” means the renter is paying no more than 30% of total household income for housing costs, including rent and utilities.
Note that this is the solution to Canada’s houselessness crisis.
Note that adequate housing is a human right recognized under the United Nations International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Right, Article 11: “The States Parties to the present Covenant recognize the right of everyone to an adequate standard of living for himself and his family, including adequate food, clothing and housing.”
Consider hosting a letter-writing event/gathering in your community sometime in September or early October, after parliament is back in session on September 21.
Please also reach out to people in other Canadian cities who think would be interested in participating in the campaign to end houselessness in Canada.
