QUOTE: "Canada Must Protect Our Intelligence Gathering from Trump"

Charlie Angus / The Resistance -= February 26, 2025

“The captain is a one-armed dwarf.
He’s throwing dice along the wharf.
In the world of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
So take this ring.” - Tom Waits

Does Pete Navarro really want to kick Canada out of the Five Eyes security alliance? Maybe yes. Maybe no.

But regardless of whether he's walked back his office rant about sticking it to his northern neighbour, this is an offer Canada must seriously consider.

Even before Trump announced his intention to destroy our nation and before he began openly parroting Putin's talking points on Ukraine, Canada and its allies had been trying to figure out what to do with a nation that is no longer to be trusted in high-level intelligence-sharing.

This concern came from Trump's decision to appoint Tulsi Gabbard as his Director of Intelligence. Gabbard had been openly attacked as a "prolific peddler of Russian propaganda." She also promoted falsehoods about the murderous Assad regime in Syria, including false statements that Assad's chemical weapons attack on a civilian population was a "false flag" operation by the country's opposition.

Charles Lister, a senior expert on Syria, told the UK Independent:

"…her views are so wildly fringe… they read like they were composed in Assad's personal office, or in Tehran or Moscow – not Washington."

Needless to say, America's key intelligence allies in the Five Eyes – the U.K., Canada, Australia and New Zealand were deeply concerned about Gabbard's appointment.

Former CSIS director Dan Stanton put it bluntly:

"From a vetting perspective, in terms of loyalty, reliability, she's totally unsuitable… It is an absolute blow [to the west]."

It's ironic that Gabbard now appears as one of the few adults standing up to Musk.

Such is the nature of Washington circa 2025.

The world watches the chaos with growing alarm because of the underlying menace attached to the circus. That menace is being directed at Canada.

Whether Trump kicks us out of the Five Eyes or not, Canada needs to seriously consider how it limits access to our intel with a country that now treats us as an enemy.

Blinding the Five Eyes is nuts, right?

Even from the MAGA worldview, you must wonder what the game plan is.

The line "Make America Great Again" is looking increasingly shabby as Trump and Musk attack systems that are fundamental for American security.

Remember back to 9/11 and the rage in the US political establishment over obvious failures in intelligence gathering. The result was the Patriot Act and Homeland Security. The American intelligence departments were given significant new powers to ensure that America would never be caught out as they were on the morning of 9/11.

Part of that heightened level of defence comes from having international partners to share intel on money laundering, narco gangs, and terrorist threats - all the stuff Donald loves to scare his MAGA voters over.

In what world does it make sense to cut off intelligence sharing with a country that shares a 5,500-mile undefended border?

But maybe it's our other border that is on Trump's mind – our border with Russia.

If the United States believes we need to be frown out of intel sharing, how can we maintain NORAD – the North American defence system that has protected both countries in the far north for 66 years?

NORAD is an integrated defence system that has succeeded because of the deep trust between two close allies.

If the United States and Canada can't trust each other for the joint defence of the north, it will be the ultimate gift to Putin.

Maybe Trump thinks he'll get to be a one-eyed king amidst the chaos he is sowing. But he's leaving America in a much more vulnerable space.

I have been writing consistently that Trump's seeming madness actually follows a strategy; it is about isolating and undermining the United States while destroying longstanding alliances with trusted allies.

Attacking and denigrating Canada makes sense in this perverse game plan because we have been the most trustworthy ally.

But we now know where we stand.

Steps must be taken to protect our national and international security interests from the gangster regime in Washington.

It is Trump and Putin against Canada, against the world.

And we need to be prepared
