EXCERPT: "Pikangikum First Nation is taking the federal government to Federal Court, seeking $2 billion in damages and $200 million in emergency relief for urgent repairs at its water treatment plant.
What's happening: The remote Ojibway community of about 4,000, located in northwestern Ontario, says it has dealt with the same issues for decades. Last week, it declared a state of emergency due to continued problems with its water and wastewater infrastructure, and it's been under its latest drinking water advisory for over a year. Of more than 500 homes in the community, none have access to running water. . . . . "
