From the Plant Gate to the Airport Gate: Big Win for Canadian Labour

Charlie Angus - The Resistance - August 20, 2025 ****VIDEO*****

EXCERPT: "Air Canada flight attendants did something unprecedented this week. They not only went on strike, but they told Prime Minister Carney they would rather go to jail than be forced back to work.

The Prime Minister is sitting at 68% in the polls. He has an unprecedented mandate to make tough decisions. As soon as the flight attendants went on strike, he invoked Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code, which gave him authority to order workers to return to their jobs to "maintain or secure industrial peace."

It seemed like all the power was lining up on the side of management. The Prime Minister was determined to send a message he would brook no resistance in troubled times. And backing him up was the threat of massive fines and jail.

And yet the people whose job it is to smile as they deal with cranky fliers didn't blink. They held rallies where they tore up the back-to-work order and said they were ready to go to jail. They understood that larger principles were at stake. . . . . "
