ANGUS: Terminator Xmas - The Chatbot War on Our Kids

EXCERPT: "Finally, I write as a Dad. I never gave a thought to my determination to protect my daughters from any possible threat. Hell, I would jump in front of a speeding car to save them from harm. All of us would. Those are protection parental instincts that have been wired into humans since the days of the cave people.

And yet, it took just a few short decades for Silicon Valley to figure out how to disconnect this natural alarm system. We adults actually welcomed the threat into the home. We did it because it seemed convenient to make our life easier. It settled down otherwise unsettled kids. Now they are in danger of becoming comatose. This happened on our watch and we need to take responsibility.

I’ve been thinking of the Terminator movie series - the ultimate dystopian story about the threat of machine driven intelligence. John Connor, a main character in the Terminator series, provides this warning:

Have you ever heard of the Singularity? It’s a point in time where machines become so smart that they’re capable of making even smarter versions of themselves without our help. That’s pretty much the time we can kiss our asses goodbye... unless we stop it.

Those machines are practising on our children. My advice is simple, keep the chatbots out of your child’s life. Make your Christmas a time without the interference of machines. No good will come from them."
