Gerald Butts and Katie Telford, senior staff in the Prime Minister's Office, said they will repay more than $65,000 in moving expenses in a statement issued on Facebook Thursday Sept. 22, 2016 that provided a breakdown of taxpayer-reimbursed expenses.
Two senior officials in the Prime Minister's Office have issued a statement breaking down the $200,000 in moving expenses charged to the taxpayer, saying they will pay back more than $65,000 in charges they decided were "unreasonable."
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's principal secretary Gerald Butts initially claimed $127,000 and his chief of staff Katie Telford charged $80,000 to move from Toronto to Ottawa.
The statement said that Trudeau has asked the secretary of the treasury board to create a new policy to govern relocation expenses across government.
