Montreal – Daniel Green, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, and candidate in Saint-Laurent, deplores the Liberal Party's anti-democratic actions in the riding.

Mr. Green stated: "After having shelved Stéphane Dion, one of Canada's highest-regarded cabinet ministers and MPs, the Liberal Party broke its promise of electoral reform. During the nomination race locally, they dropped the Mayor of Saint-Laurent, Alan DeSousa, as a candidate in favour of Yolande James, the party candidate.

"The Liberals insulted the constituents of Saint-Laurent with these actions. Seldom have we seen a party less respectful of the constituents of a riding, and I know that there is considerable opposition to the nomination process in Saint-Laurent."

Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), said: "On April 3, the constituents of Saint-Laurent will have the opportunity to send a clear message to the Liberals by voting for Daniel Green. In doing so, they can denounce the evictions of Alan DeSousa and Stéphane Dion, the latter being a strong supporter of a proportional voting system. The Liberals must understand that they cannot continue to break their 2015 promises on electoral reform, on the approval of pipelines and on an array of other issues.

"By voting Green, Saint-Laurent will be the first riding to elect a Green MP in Quebec and will gain national recognition," Ms. May said.

Daniel Green concluded: "I am convinced that on April 3 the constituents of Saint-Laurent will not opt for a lack of political experience. After having been represented by Stéphane Dion for 20 years, Saint-Laurent deserves an MP from a party that is honest and democratic." - 30 -
