You’ve all read this or similar renditions of this ‘poem’ from before WWII by Martin Niemöller

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.



Now the 2014 Canadian version:

First they attacked the integrity of the ‘opposition’, and I did not speak out because I was not a member of the opposition

Then they attacked the integrity of the Media, and I did not speak out…

Then they attacked the integrity of the Environmentalists… as if they knew what the environment actually was, and I did not speak out…

Then they attacked the Scientists because they, obviously, had no concept of Conservative Values, and because…

Then they attacked the Foreigners who supported Environmentalists and Scientists… because the environment does not belong to Foreigners or Scientists,

and because…

Earlier they attacked specific CBC personalities but some like 'Peter NOT Man enough' and 'Rex Murky-Thinker’ chose obsequious expediency rather than integrity, and because….

Then they attacked the peaceful protesters who dared to misunderstand the role of the G20 meetings, and because …..

Then they attacked the very seat of our democracy, closing down the Houses of Parliament because the opposition could not understand Conservative Parliamentary process, and because…

Then they augmented their long time attacks on the Native Communities in Canada, because those poor souls could not understand what the Environment is, what science says that supports their beliefs, what the economy really is about, and the concepts of freedom of speech, association, etc., and because…

Then in 2015 they closed the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and changed it into Conservative Believers Church, …

and it was too late -

I no longer had the freedom to speak out!
