Activists from The Council of Canadians installed a massive sign at a farm near La Malbaie, along the helicopter flight path of the leaders travelling between CFB Bagotville and the summit site. The message was a 50 by 35 metre “G7” with a red line through it.

While taking aerial photos of the installation with a 100 gram GoPro camera suspended from helium balloons, organizers regretfully lost control of the camera rig when strong winds snagged it in a tree, snapping the two retention lines. The camera was last seen floating toward the G7 summit site at an altitude of approximately 500 metres.

“The drifting camera poses no danger to the public, unlike the G7 itself [ https://canadians.org/media/council-can ... peech-zone ],” says Mark Calzavara, Regional Organizer with the Council of Canadians. “If anyone finds our camera, we would appreciate getting it back.”

Overly restrictive G7 security prohibited the use of remote control drones, even 15km away from the G7 summit where the message was installed.

“We have been trying to tell the leaders of the G7 that their summit is illegitimate and undemocratic,” says Angela Giles, Atlantic Regional Organizer with the Council of Canadians. “They should hold future summits with all 195 countries at the United Nations.”

The Council has left a message for the Integrated Security Unit to notify it about the lost camera. -30-
