Dear friends at The Current
I too heard and watched Harper’s speech after the ‘shooter’ on Parliament Hill. I heard something quite different than a "calm, measured response". I heard an equally dangerous person USING the opportunity this mentally challenged ‘shooter’ availed him, to further his control-freak megalomanic agenda.
Here is a quote from the speech. If you omit the smaller words you will hear a particularly ironic, cynical message by a rhetorician posturing as something he is not and actually diverting the Canadian public’s attention away from his own transgressions against Democracy in our country, while at the same time fomenting fear in the general public.
..."We are also reminded that attacks on our . . . institutions of governance are, by their very nature, attacks on our country, on our values, on our society, on us Canadians as free and democratic people who embrace human dignity for all…”
I follow this with a letter to the editor that further explains EXACTLY what Harper has and continues to do under the guise of a calm, emotionless puppet. HOWEVER you will notice if you watch the video the Harper was FOR ONCE quite unable to control his excitement at this opportunity to continue his dismantling of Canadian democracy!
P.S. If you want to talk about ‘calm, measured'…discuss Mulcair’s address! The contrast is VERY instructive.

Dear sir:
Today in Ottawa we are witnessing the consequences of the Harper government’s growing militarism and efforts to change Canada’s international profile from a peaceful 'honest broker' to a minor-league satellite of the U.S. military hegemony. For my whole lifetime I have been proud to be a citizen of that U.N. supporting, blue beret wearing, Peace loving country. Not only have we lost our seat on the Security Council of the U.N. we have also lost all international credibility in every issue, from environmentalism, to Climate Change to the very operations of our former strong democracy.
Today, Canada is witnessing the results of the growing Fascism as led and fomented by Harper and his ignominious government.

P.S. As Harper has implemented his agenda of undermining Parliament ( you all know the LONG list of transgressions, omnibus bills etc. that so eerily parallel those in Germany before WWII)); and the Rule of Law (from the suspending of civil liberties...remember the G20 in To.?); and his & his minister’s continuing abusive personal attacks on everyone with any views that do not coincide with that Fascist agenda, Harper has drastically changed Canada and its internal and international reputation.
S.N.
