Fall Conference(s) Update:
Planning is well underway for the “Growing together in Saskatchewan” fall conferences in Moose Jaw Oct 2nd-3rd (SIAST Palliser campus) and La Ronge Oct 22nd -23rd.
Each weekend conferences is preceded by a Thursday “Thought about Food” interactive workshop.
Many keynote speakers and panel presenters for both the Moose Jaw and La Ronge events are confirmed.
These conferences are about understanding and expanding the local food systems in Saskatchewan to reach a time when there is safe, and nutritious food for all. Keynote speakers and panelists will touch on all aspects of the food system from local to global and from farm gate to kitchen. There will be panels on everything from cooking, collective kitchens, community gardens, Good Food Boxes, farmers markets, local retailing, organic production and processing to local food policy and the food challenges in northern Saskatchewan.
We anticipate about 200 participants at the Moose Jaw conference and 75 to 80 in La Ronge. We will be inviting federal and provincial government participation and approaching government departments and agencies for some conference support.
The social and gastronomical highlight of the conference will be the Friday evening ‘Celebrate Saskatchewan’ banquet where local producers combine with the chefs of SIAST Palliser campus to present a delicious all Saskatchewan menu.
There will be a youth workshop preceding the conference which will report to a panel presentation on the main conference agenda.
In the weeks ahead we will be circulating the promotional materials on the conference and opening up the food secure Saskatchewan website
