WHEREAS CO2 is the building block of life and fuels. Photosynthesis CO2 is not a pollutant and to call it a pollutant is disingenuous.

WHEREAS any policies that are designed to punish the critical natural CO2 cycle are not only illogical but dangerous to the balance of natural food production.

WHEREAS Saskatchewan’s forests, grasslands and crop production zones rely on this critical CO2 but also sequesters more CO2 than any illogically created CO2 Reduction Strategy.

WHEREAS policies that vilify CO2 are illogical and unpredictable and will undoubtedly create an uncertain amount of negative impact to our existing crop production systems and economy.

BE IT RESOLVED that SARM will ensure that any policies that unduly target naturally occurring CO2 will be deemed as illogical and dangerous. We move that Saskatchewan remove itself from any national or international agreements that reference net zero.

Resolution Background: Council wants to raise awareness of the unfair potential downfalls passed onto agricultural producers. This resolution affects all agricultural producers in this province and country.

Duncan, other politicians catering to climate change deniers

'This government is creating a poorer quality of life for at least seven generations to come,' writes Jim Elliott.

Letter Published Mar 07, 2024

Jim Elliott writes that politicians are pandering too much to not only climate change deniers but also those who don't want to see any inconvenience when tackling this global problem.

Crown Investment Corporation Minister Dustin Duncan is taking one for the carbon tax denial team — crass politics, clear and simple.

We could be creating new jobs, helping to rid the planet of carbon pollution and making this province more sustainable. That should be everyone’s goal — not attempting to divert our eyes from the long list of problems in this province.

And the response of the NDP Opposition when a modicum of comfort is taken away from us through the carbon pollution tax (for which we receive a rebate) engenders tacit support from that side of the aisle.

If we want to reduce our carbon footprint while helping those in financial need, the actions to provide a grant to help those most in need to get off the fossil treadmill, it should not be seen as a political football. It should be seen as a willingness to help those in need.

It also shouldn’t be an opportunity to stoke the “why not me’s of the world” of our current premiers.

The sooner they can deal with real issues like getting people into homes, protecting the planet and providing support for those who are dealing with trauma and health issues, the better this province will be.

Knowing that this government is creating a poorer quality of life for at least seven generations to come with forest fires, more storms and more unpredictability in our weather, we should be our focus on reducing this priority one threat.

We are on that road to solving problems. Let’s not continue to create more potholes and cracks.

Jim Elliott, Regina

Experts say Sask. RMs' vote against climate change policies not rooted in fact

Ag and climate change expert says farmers should be supported in climate change transition

Kendall Latimer · CBC News · Posted: March 31, 2024

Representatives of Saskatchewan's rural municipalities voted overwhelmingly at a recent convention in favour of a resolution saying carbon dioxide isn't a pollutant and calling on the province to step away from climate change initiatives.

Some experts who study agriculture and climate change say the resolution isn't rooted in fact and missed out on why farmers should want to address climate change.

The resolution on CO2, made at the annual meeting of the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) in mid-March, says "policies that vilify CO2 are illogical and unpredictable and will undoubtedly create an uncertain amount of negative impact to our existing crop production systems and economy." . . . ."

Greens shocked as NDP vote with Conservatives against carbon price

[ https://www.greenparty.ca/en/media-rele ... rbon-price ]

April 11, 2024

OTTAWA - The Green Party of Canada expresses disappointment in the decision by NDP MPs to support a Conservative motion aimed at undermining carbon pricing.

"This is a clear example of cynical politics prevailing over principle," stated Leader Elizabeth May. "The decision by the NDP to align with the Conservatives on this issue is deeply troubling. It goes against the interests of combating climate change."

The GPC emphasizes that carbon pricing is a crucial tool in addressing the climate crisis. The NDP is disregarding the importance of effective climate policies and succumbing to fear-mongering tactics.

"It’s tragic to see our NDP friends choose to echo the no-plan Conservatives' fear-mongering rhetoric instead of focusing on the real drivers of inequality in this country. They could focus as we do on fighting the tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy or slashing the indefensible corporate welfare that costs Canadians billions of dollars. Instead, they’re jumping on the easy bandwagon of false attacks on carbon pricing," remarked Deputy Leader Jonathan Pedneault. " At the end of the day, the impact of so-called progressive parties dropping the ball is much greater on the pockets of average Canadians than any carbon pricing."

MP Mike Morrice echoed these sentiments. "Cutting rebates and undermining carbon pricing will not solve the affordability crisis." "We must instead focus on addressing price gouging and providing support through initiatives like the Canada disability benefit."

The GPC underscores the importance of informed and evidence-based policymaking in addressing climate change and affordability issues. We advocate for a collaborative approach that involves input from climate scientists, economists, and experts in sustainable development.

"It is deeply disappointing to see the NDP aligning with the Conservatives on this critical issue," added May. "By prioritizing political gamesmanship over effective climate action, the NDP is failing Canadians and undermining our collective efforts to combat climate change."

The Green Party of Canada remains the only opposition party to vote for the climate.
