Canadians in Middle East

Dear Minister O'Connor,

Thank you for your lengthy and considerate reply of July 13th to my letter regarding our Canadian forces in Afghanistan.

First of all, I presume that many other Canadians are not opposed to the Canadian military being in Afghanistan in their traditional role as peace makers or peace keepers, and are there at the request of the UN.

Especially if it is apparent that children, including girls, are protected and encouraged to attend educational facilities, which probably have to be constructed or repaired. But it does make one wonder if Canadian tax-payers should be footing the bill for the destruction caused by the 12-year Russian backed war in Afghanistan, and the extensive bombing carried on by the US in their search for Osama Bin Ladin and members of Al Quaeda.

There is no real evidence that Afghans or the Taliban planned the catastrophe of 9/11. Robert Miller of the FBI stated that when Americans took over Afghanistan they found absolutely no evidence that Osama Bin Laden or any Afghans had planned the 9/11 horror.

Whoever planned 9/11, or allowed it to happen, did not do so because they knew that there were Canadians in the Twin Towers. If it was allowed to happen, then who is the greater terrorist? --a few extremists terrorists] who received their flight training in the US, or those who did not initiate the take off of the interceptor F16 planes before they reached the Twin Towers?

There are many many unanswered questions about 9/11, questions that patriotic Americans are loathe to consider, questions that we Canadians should now also be asking.

Public statements made before 9/11 indicate that attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq were primarily carried to secure oil and oil pipelines in the Middle East. The fact that the Taliban and Saddam Hussien, the latter originally being favored by the American administration as undesirable characters, does not give anyone the right to invade them and bomb their infrastructure and mostly innocent people to smithereens.
