SUNDAY FUNDAY: MORE HELP NEEDED
As I am sure you know, Sunday Funday is a volunteer organization which provides support for low-income and unhoused people. Every Sunday we offer food, a free clothing market, and a place to socialize for few hours.
Thanks to everyone who donated so generously to funding for Sunday Funday. Together, through Making Peace Vigil, we raised $2,200. That is AMAZING!
This money continues to be used to cover the cost of some of the meals for Sunday Funday. And there is still money in the kitty.
What Sunday Funday needs now is more volunteers. Over the winter, we are inside at the Heritage Centre, 1770 Halifax Street, from noon to 3 pm. Once the weather warms up, we will move outside to Pepsi Park." Volunteers will be notified of changes.
While we are inside, volunteers are needed for the following assignments:
Set-up of tables and chairs (between 11:30 and noon)
Organizing the free clothing market (noonish)
Greeting the guests, providing access to the drop-in space (noon to 2:30)
Working the main door (noon to 2:30)
Organizing the use of the washrooms and cleaning them at the end (noon to 2:30)
Helping out at tables where goods are being distributed (noon-2:30)
Serving food (between 12:45 and 2:00)
General clean-up at the end, including taking down of tables and chairs, sweeping and washing floors—plus whatever else is needed. (2:15 to 3:15)

Dr. Smart is a pediatrician, national healthcare leader, and a respected Canadian voice on the future of healthcare. Born and raised in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Dr. Smart is the former President of the Canadian Medical Association, where she led the profession through the COVID-19 pandemic and helped shape national dialogue on healthcare sustainability, equity, and system transformation. She practices pediatrics in Whitehorse, Yukon, where she founded and leads Lynx Health, an innovative, team-based model of care designed to improve access and outcomes for children and families in northern and rural communities. Her clinical work focuses on child development, mental health and supporting marginalized children and families. She has held numerous leadership roles, including President of the Yukon Medical Association, and has served on national boards advancing child health and healthcare innovation. She brings both a prairie perspective and a national voice to her work, grounded in the belief that Canada’s healthcare system reflects our shared values—and our shared responsibility to ensure it remains strong for future generations.
Following the lecture, Katharine will engage in a conversation with Professor Gregory Marchildon. Some time is being reserved for questions from the audience.
