NATURE REGINA, SPECIAL ACTION: SAVE MCKELL WASCANA CONSERVATION PARK
The City is considering extending Prince of Wales Drive through the McKell Wascana Conservation Park. Nature Regina is very concerned about the impact this would have on the McKell Wascana Conservation Park and the wildlife that use it. A protected area should mean the area is protected from future development. That is certainly what we understood when the McKell Wascana Conservation Park was announced.
The City recently initiated public consultations on the proposed extension of the Prince of Wales Drive. Nature Regina encourages you to take part in this consultation and express your feelings on the importance of protecting the McKell Conservation Area. There are two ways to respond to the question around the future route of the Prince of Wales Drive.

The first option is to do the survey (Available at https://beheard.regina.ca/ ). It tends to focus on the need for mobility from the area around the end of the current portion of Prince of Wales Drive and extending it to the Wascana Parkway. It doesn't provide many spots where your concerns about it going through the McKell Wascana Conservation Park other than in question 5 (see below the questions in the survey). The survey must be filled out before June 24th.

A further step might be to send a personal email to wascanaparkway@regina.ca where you can provide more information about your concerns about this planned route. It was stated earlier that there were alternative routes that did not go through the McKell Wascana Conservation Park. It has been suggested that you "cc" the Mayor and your Councillor as it will be their final decision about how this proceeds.

Almost all students of political science and history, know the name Daniel Ellsberg. And they mostly know him for his incredibly courageous act of leaking what became known as “The Pentagon Papers” – classified documents that told the truth of our government's massive cover up of the prosecution of the Vietnam War.
What is lesser-known by the average American is that Daniel, at the tender age of 27, had one of highest level security clearances in government as a top nuclear consultant and strategic analyst to the Rand corporation, the Pentagon and the White House. And then later went on to be one of the most vociferous voices decrying the insanity of planning for a war that would effectively end civilization as we know it. He published this story in 2017 in the seminal book, The Doomsday Machine: Confessions of a Nuclear War Planner.
What is even lesser-known is that Daniel was a prolific writer, but rarely published his writings. Now, 3 years after his tragic passing from pancreatic cancer, his son, Michael Ellsberg, in conjunction with Jan Thomas, one of Daniel's earliest assistants, have collected and curated a volume of never-before published personal and professional musings, notes and warnings that give deep tremendous insight into the thoughts behind this brilliant mind.
