Need for CBC

Dear The House,
Listening to the program today . . .
CBC has proven beyond doubt that it is far more than fair to "the private sector".
It has become cowed by the private sector attackers and obsequious to the neo-liberal forces.
A few concepts kept creeping into the conversation:
'Diversity' seemed to mean to one of your guests - support for the right wing crap emanating from the USA. AND he seemed to be continuing with the covert attack that CBC is somehow biased and presents a particular viewpoint!
BALDERDASH!
All over N. America (and the world), CBC has been cited as an 'independent', reliable source of news that is (was?) NOT biased and politically controlled.
So what does this guest mean?
Does he mean we need a 'balance' that includes economically biased and politically twisted propaganda?
The answer - NO!
Then there was the discussion of supporting the private broadcasters:
If you know the history of CanWest Global, you KNOW that it bought up and controlled dozens of small town TV and radio stations on its way to gaining 'market share'.
Now, WHO does CanWest first abandon...the small markets!
You would also be aware that CanWest put hundreds of people out of work, and slowly and progressively eliminated local news and local production in favour of American network programming.
OH YES - save this wonderful example of Canadian broadcasting and Canadian values!!!
The (Canadian Heritage) Minister's suggestion that CBC is arms-length is totally BULLSHIT.
Harperites have continued the Liberal cuts to CBC on the basis of so-called economic necessity and his government's refusal to give bridge financing to CBC; rejection of the suggestions of CBC management is proof beyond question that Harper is using this economic crisis to further his agenda of undermining everything Canadian in favour of kowtowing to international money!
Lastly, giving ANY credence to Ignatieff is to ignore his actions.
He has rejected supporting and working with the representatives of the MAJORITY of Canadians (the coalition) in favour of supporting Harper and the 'right-wing' economic overlords of our country.
Obviously, (perhaps not to you...Is your myopia part of the growing obsequiousness at CBC?) Ignatieff has decided to support the broken 'false majority' electoral system that has made Canadian Democracy a sham over the last 30+ years....
He is waiting until the OPPORTUNE moment to 'defeat' the Conservatives so that he can continue the hegemony the 'economic elite' have maintained in Canada for the last 35+ years ... i.e. There is really no difference between the Liberals and Conservatives - only degrees and shades of variation on the same themes.
If you need any more convincing just look at what the Liberal Party did to Dion: Iggy convinced the inner circle that Green was NOT politically acceptable to the traditional supporters of the Liberal Party and the first real liberal leader with policies that diverged from what the economic elite dictate, DISAPPEARED!
In Canada, we 'disappear' opponents to the powers that control 'our' government in ways that do little violence to the person but result in the same violence to the environment and the same violence to the wellbeing of families and workers!
If anything is proven by the recent CBC crisis/cuts, it is that the CBC is NOT arms-length and has become far too obsequious to the neo-liberal / conservative right.
