Opinion | Look up prime minister: Toronto is choking and you’re fuelling the fire

EXCERPT: "Forest fires in Canada burn ever bigger, hotter and more frequently. Meanwhile, pounding rains create dangerous and destructive floods and heat waves drive more diseases farther north, into our backyards and our bodies.

The planet is heating up at an out of control pace and this threatens our global civilization. Canada is already living the impacts.

But our prime minister says now is not the time for action. Instead he rolls out plans to double the climate change causing pollution spewed by the oil and gas industry — to be paid for with Canadian tax dollars mostly for the benefit of U.S.-based investors.

He also does the oil lobby’s bidding by weakening the taxes they pay to pollute and announcing plans to gut the long-standing rules that help to moderate their impact on water, air, human health and wildlife.

And for what? To prop up a dying industry while the rest of the world races toward clean energy? . . . ."
