Let’s have a national apology and grovelling day for Canadians. We could have a flag and a parade and a grovelling stand in Ottawa for politicians to grovel before the population. We could apologize for every hurt that has been caused to anyone or group that we may have wronged in the past. Imagine how wonderful we would all feel, all the wounds we would heal. Then, why not show the crosses that line the cemeteries all over Europe and the names on those crosses. Show a few photos of these courageous men and women who sacrificed their lives based on a set of values they believed in, then watch as they slowly turn over in their graves at the state of our country today.

As a former military member who served a full career in the RCAF and Canada's Armed Forces, I agree with Dr. Pips scathing assessment of the "Bring it Home Plan"

A thought-less undertaking that reeks of destroying the country that I once served.

Our governments are supposed to be accountable for their actions, to regulate and make decisions that protect public interest, the environment, water and our health. Today's governments however, are unduly influenced and controlled in too many ways by industry and corporations with their promises of investments, development, technological solutions and globalized trade. The Precautionary Principles are put aside and ignored.

Promoters, corporate executives and government officials often use the word, "sustainable" to soften the unknown consequences of certain development proposals.

However, when water, air and the environment are at stake, the use of the word becomes abusive and disrespectful. Water, for instance is not a renewable element, so when a proposed project endangers a water supply, any attempt to describe it as "sustainable" ought to be "rejected outright".

Perhaps what is desperately needed at this time is a Special Day of Grovelling, as pointed out in the following letter, in an edition of the Toronto Sun newspaper.
