What harmful chemicals are in your holiday spread?

With the holiday season just around the corner, do you know what potentially harmful chemicals may be lurking in Aunt Sue’s famous bean casserole?

Glyphosate is a risky chemical found in some of the most widely used pesticides in Canada, including Roundup. It’s registered for use on several crops including chickpeas, wheat, barley, oats, and dried beans among others.

That’s why Ecojustice lawyers are in court today. We’re arguing that Canadians have the right to participate in decision-making about risky pesticides that impact our health.

We’re fighting to keep this potentially dangerous pesticide off our plates and out of our bellies.

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has approved continued use of the chemical, despite evidence from the World Health Organization which shows glyphosate is a probable carcinogen, dangerous to human health.

We contend that the PMRA should convene an expert review panel to independently examine evidence of the harmful health impacts of glyphosate.
