PORTRAITS OF COURAGE - We Are Doing This! — Liz's Story of Resistance

Charlie Angus / The Resistance - May 20, 2025

EXCERPT: "The resistance to tyranny is not coming from the courts or the political class; the fight is being led by ordinary people — people finding the courage to stand up for what's right, and determined to protect their rights from the rising tide of the MAGA mob.

This series isn’t just about Canadian stories. It’s about resistance without borders.

So whether you’re in a small town or a major city, whether you’re in Canada, the U.S., or somewhere else entirely, your courage matters, and we want to hear it.

Liz from Victoria, British Columbia, reached out to share her story.

We are so grateful that people like Liz are in the frontline trench of democracy.

We will stand the gaff. . . . .

Portraits of Courage is an ongoing series highlighting everyday people who are standing up to fascism, tyranny, disinformation and fear. If you or someone you know is resisting in your community, workplace, or family, we want to hear from you.

These stories matter. They remind us that we are not alone and that the smallest spark of resistance can ignite real change.

Send your story to info@charlieangus.ca

We might not be able to share every story here, but we read and appreciate every email. Keep kicking at the darkness.

Portraits of Courage - "I Didn't Want to Violate the Boycott" — A Story of Resistance

Charlie Angus / The Resistance - May 25, 2025

EXCERPT: "Stories of Canadians being detained at the border did scare me, but more than that I didn't want to violate the boycott.
I run a stop-in for homeless people out of my church and my denomination has a wonderful retreat for people like me every two years. It's happening this fall, in the States, and I won't be attending that either.
I will not set foot in the States while Trump is in charge. . . . . "
