EXCERPT: "Green Party leader Elizabeth May says Prime Minister Mark Carney’s proposed legislation meant to unify Canada’s economy and fast-track critical infrastructure projects, is a threat to democracy, the environment and Indigenous rights.

May says the proposed law hands sweeping new powers to cabinet— with little oversight, no clear criteria, and only weak commitments to Indigenous consultation or environmental protection.

“It says in the speech from the throne how they’re really committed to free, prior, informed consent. It doesn’t say that in the bill,” May told APTN News.

“ I’m so appalled that a bill this anti-democratic and potentially devastating to the environment and Indigenous rights was just tabled. And they think they’re going to get it passed by July 2nd.” . . . . "
