EXCERPT: "MAGA ambassador Pete Hoekstra’s swear-filled rant against Canadian trade representatives was much more than a breach of ambassadorial obligation. It represented the gangster nature of Trump diplomacy. And no one is lower on the credibility rung than Pete Hoekstra.

Canadian media have tread carefully around Mr. Hoekstra, but Canadians need to know exactly the kind of man who has been put in charge of Canadian relations.

Hoekstra was a key architect of Project 2025 and has long pushed extremist political positions. He is notorious for spreading disinformation and hate about Muslim people. As for his foreign affairs credentials, he has a dismal record of blame politics and interference in the affairs of other nations. When he was ambassador to the Netherlands, he faced serious criticism for his falsehoods and meddling.

It begs the question: Why did Trump appoint him as ambassador to the United States’ most important trade relationship? . . . ."
