Lester R. Brown is the founder of the Earth Policy and Worldwatch Institutes. He has been honored with numerous prizes, including a MacArthur Fellowship, the United Nations Environment Prize, and twenty-five honorary degrees. He lives in Washington, D.C.

Janet Larsen is an author and the director of research for Earth Policy Institute. She has written on topics ranging from natural resources availability to population growth and climate change. Prior to the creation of Earth Policy Institute, Janet worked at Worldwatch Institute, providing research support for State of the World and contributing to Vital Signs.

A good summary of needed changes to the world's energy industries April 18 2015

Lester Brown is a legendary figure in the US environmental movement. With his creation of Worldwatch Institute he created an annual system for looking at the world environmental situation.

He later left Worldwatch and founded the Earth Policy Institute. This year he announced he is closing Earth Policy Institute. I have read most of his books.

This book is a good summary of the transition needed for the world's energy industries. The key part of the book is Chapter 9, The Accelerating Transition. Here he outlines the urgent need for government action.

My main problem with the book is that it in my view sugar coats the nature of the transition. I think it is going to be far tougher than Brown states. However, it is a cost that must be paid since the alternative is a disaster nobody wants.
