WATCH: CBC Radio according to Stephen Harper...

On February 26, 2009, CBC President Hubert Lacroix announced “a revenue shortfall of $55 to $60 million” and suggested that CBC was looking at new options for funding, such as putting ads on CBC Radio.
In November 2007, Stephen Harper appointed Lacroix, a Montreal lawyer who had contributed the maximum legal amount to a Conservative candidate in the 2006 general election. Shortly thereafter, Harper’s hidden agenda to damage public broadcasting was coming into focus and FRIENDS took every opportunity to illustrate his true intentions towards the CBC.
In March of 2009, FRIENDS launched the "CBC Radio according to Stephen Harper..." campaign with three short viral videos.
In the glare of this spotlight, Lacroix backed off placing ads on CBC Radio One. As you may know, four years later CBC started running ads on Radio 2 (with poor results).
The videos are satirical and over-the-top, but they point to a hard truth: funding cuts, attacking editorial independence and patronage appointments of unqualified directors by a government hostile to public broadcasting are anything but funny.
Please watch these three short videos and pass them along to your friends, family and your social networks.
Many thanks,
Ian Morrison
