We want Cameco (a major global uranium corporation) to pay up the over 1.5 billion dollars that they owe the people of Canada. They have been practicing tax avoidance through off shore tax shelters.

Prime Minister Harper and Premier of Saskatchewan Brad Wall please , on behalf of the Canadian people, demand that Cameco pay taxes owning now and close the tax shelters that allow companies like Cameco to transfer money out of Canada.

Why is this important?

Many corporations in Canada are using tax havens so they do not have to pay taxes where their profit is made. A particular corporation that has practiced tax avoidance is Cameco a major global uranium mining corporation that at this point is estimated to owe over 1.5 billion in taxes to the people of Canada. Even the Canadian Revenue Agency has gone after them but they will not pay up.

We (Saskatchewan Citizens for Tax Fairness) working with Canadians for Tax Fairness have run a billboard and pubic education campaign on Cameco. Support from the Sum Of Us world community would really help to move things along. Cameco is an example of what other corporations are doing in transferring their profits outside the countries that supplied the resources, infra structure and labour power to make that profit. The taxes they owe can go to environmental protection and sustainability, health and education, alleviating poverty and building civic and community infra structure.

Cameco and others practicing tax avoidance need to practice good corporate citizenship and social accountability.
